HESPERUS
Durango, CO | 2009
Perched along the hillside above Durango, this residence is conceived as an extension of the landscape—low, linear, and quietly embedded within its surroundings. The architecture traces the contours of the terrain, framing expansive views of the valley and distant mountains while maintaining a grounded, intimate relationship with the site.
A restrained material palette of stone, wood, and dark metal anchors the home to its environment, allowing it to recede into the natural textures of the region. Deep overhangs and elongated rooflines respond to the high-desert climate, offering protection from sun and snow while creating moments of shelter and shadow.
Inside, spaces unfold with clarity and purpose—open, yet anchored—where light, horizon, and material continuity guide the experience. The residence is less an object than a lens: a quiet framework for inhabiting the vastness of southwest Colorado.
